If you are moving here, start with us.

This is the men's lacrosse program at Middle Creek High School in Wake County. Two state championships, eight conference titles, and a season that ended one goal short of the 2026 final. Below you will find what we have done, when tryouts are, and how to reach the coach — before you have signed a lease.

Head Coach Nick Holota reads the interest form himself. If your family has not moved yet, say so — it is the most useful thing you can tell him.

Reading this from another state?

Wake County is growing quickly and a good share of our players arrive from somewhere else. You do not need an address in the Middle Creek district to start a conversation — you need about ten minutes. Here is the whole process, plainly.

  1. Check the attendance zone first

Middle Creek High School serves parts of Apex and Cary. Wake County Public School System publishes the address lookup — confirm the house you are considering feeds into Middle Creek before anything else.

  2. Send the interest form now, not in August

The player interest form lives on this site. Send it the moment you know you are coming, even if the move is a year out.

  3. Ask about off-season

Winter workouts and off-season sessions run before tryouts. If you land in town early, your son can be in the gym with the group before he is on a roster.

  4. Come to a game while you are house-hunting

Spring visits line up with our season. Tell Coach Holota which weekend you are in town and he will point you at a home game. Schedule is on the Schedule & Results page.

What we will tell you straight

NCHSAA has transfer and eligibility rules, and they matter more than anything on a website. We will walk your family through them with the Middle Creek athletic director rather than guess at them here.

Tryout dates, required physicals and the season calendar are posted on this site as soon as the school sets them — this page is maintained in season and out.

Relocating from out of state?

Put your current city in the form. Coach Holota keeps a list of families who are on their way, and it is the fastest route to a real conversation instead of a form reply.

Program history

Two state championships.

Both in NCHSAA 4A, then the largest classification; NCHSAA has since expanded to eight. Here is exactly what each one was.

The 2017 Middle Creek men's lacrosse state championship team.
2017 First title in school history

A perfect season: 22–0, and a 17–8 win over Lake Norman in the 4A final. NCHSAA's own headline called it Middle Creek's first title.

The winning streak reached 43 straight games — a state record.

2022 Won with ten seconds left

A 9–8 win over Weddington in the 4A final, decided on a goal with ten seconds on the clock. The team finished 23–2 and ranked first in the state.

All-Americans Tate Jones and Breyden Harrison; Academic All-American James Cardillo.

For the record, because it is listed wrongly in places: Middle Creek has won two state championships — 2017 and 2022. There is no third, and the program's own accounts say the same.

Who runs it

Head Coach Nick Holota

One name, one inbox. Questions about tryouts, off-season, eligibility or a visit go to the head coach, and families who are still out of state get an answer the same as families down the road.

Where players go next

From the program's own records: 7 players from the 2021 team went on to play college lacrosse. From the 2020 class, 5 players — three of them Division I.

Those are the numbers the program publishes. We do not extrapolate past them.
